Erstwhile, Poovar was known as Pokkumoosapuram until Maharaja MarthandaVarma of Travancore didn’t witness the pristine beauty of this enchanting land. Once, while he was escaping from Travancore during some internal riots, he came to this village. It was the season of spring and the area alongside the river Neyyar was filled with flowering trees. In fact, profound of flowers were falling on the river giving like the glimpse of paradise.

He was, so enchanted with the scene and the beauty of river that he renamed the village as Poovar; meaning “Stream of Flower”. So, now you see how Poovar is actually termed as a paradise.

How to reach Poovar:

By Road: Reaching Poovar via road is quite easy; since, it is properly connected to various cities like, Trissur, Trivandrum, Kollam, Kottayam, Madurai, etc. Hence, you can either take services of Kerala State Road Bus Transport or any private luxury bus services to arrive at this beautiful place.

By Rail: To reach Poovar, the closest railway station is Thiruvananthapuram at the distance of 27 Kilometres. You can reach to Thiruvananthapuram railway station from various prime cities of the country like, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kanpur, etc. and from there you can take taxi to move ahead further.

By Air: The nearest airport to reach Poovar is Trivandrum International Airport at distance of some 30 kilometres. This airport is properly connected with many of major cities like, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, etc. Hence, you can easily reach here from any of the city. From the airport, you can taxi to further travel to Poovar.
