Amritsar is one of the most ancient cities of India located in the state of Punjab and is well known for the Golden Temple (also Harmandir Sahib Gurudwara). It is an important seat of Sikh history & culture. The Popularity of the Golden Temple attracts the visitors from all over the world. It is also a historical city where Jallianwala Bagh Massacre took place in 1919 under British Rule in which thousands of people including some freedom fighters, civilians were gunned down by the troops of British Indian Army on the order of Colonel R Dyer. There are various historical and religious sites to visit at Amritsar. The most famous among all of them is “ Temple “Harmandir Sahib founded by the fourth guru of sikh Guru Ramdas and completed by his successor Guru Arjan Dev considered the holiest Gurudwara or religious complex of sikh religion. It’s at the end of the causeway, surrounded by the sacred Amrit Sarovar Lake where Pilgrims take dip to get salvation. The beauty of the temple becomes double in full moon night. Wagha Border is another major attraction located just 28kms away from Amritsar and is particularly known for the elaborate Wagah border ceremony that happens at the border gate, two hours before sunset each day. The flag ceremony is conducted by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers (PR) every day in the evening.
